About Golf Simulator Space & Setup Calculator

A free, independent planning tool for home golf simulator setups

Why This Tool Exists

Home golf simulator setups have exploded in popularity over the last decade, but planning one remains surprisingly difficult. Launch monitor manufacturers publish minimum room requirements, yet those specs are scattered across PDFs, support articles, and retail listings. Few resources tell you whether a specific room can actually accommodate a specific system before you spend thousands of dollars.

We built this calculator to close that gap. Instead of manually cross-referencing width, depth, height, ceiling clearance, tee-to-screen distance, and budget, users can enter their room dimensions once and immediately see which launch monitors are compatible, which mats fit, and what enclosure they will need.

What Makes This Different

Most compatibility guides are written as static blog posts or marketing brochures. This tool evaluates real numeric constraints: minimum footprint, optimal tee-to-screen spacing, ceiling height requirements, and budget filters. It also accounts for handedness, which matters for camera-based systems that sit offset to the side of the ball.

Because the tool runs entirely in your browser, we do not log your room dimensions or search history. There is no account wall, no paywall, and no tracking beyond basic anonymous analytics.

Our Review Standards

The data behind this calculator is maintained by the same team that publishes long-form equipment reviews at simgolfbenchmarks.com. Every monitor dimension, minimum tee distance, and ceiling requirement is checked against manufacturer documentation and real-world installation reports. If you want deeper analysis—such as how radar-based systems differ from camera-based systems, or why mat choice affects ball roll and sensor accuracy—our benchmark site contains extended comparisons and hands-on evaluation notes.

Methodology

How We Measure Compatibility

Each launch monitor in our database includes four spatial requirements: width, depth, height, and minimum tee-to-screen distance. Width is the lateral space needed for the unit and swing arc. Depth is the distance from the tee position to the impact screen or wall. Height is the minimum ceiling clearance above the hitting area.

Tee-to-screen distance is especially important for radar-based systems. Unlike camera-based systems, which sit beside the ball and rely on high-speed imaging, radar units must be placed behind the golfer—typically seven to nine feet back—to capture club head and ball flight data accurately. If a room is fourteen feet deep, a radar system effectively has only six feet of usable distance to the screen, which may be too short for certain models and can cause bounce-backs.

Who This Calculator Is For

The calculator is built for anyone planning a home golf simulator: first-time buyers comparing launch monitors, golfers converting a garage, spare room or basement, and people who already own a monitor and want to know whether a projector, screen and enclosure will fit around it. It works for right- and left-handed players and for rooms measured in feet or meters.

What The Calculator Does Not Do

It estimates fit; it does not replace a site visit. It cannot see obstructions such as beams, light fixtures, HVAC ducts or door swings, and it does not model every possible mounting option. Always confirm the final numbers against the manufacturer's current installation guide before you buy, and allow extra clearance for a full, safe swing.

How We Keep Our Data Current

Launch monitor specifications change when manufacturers update firmware, release new models or revise their recommended room sizes. We review the compatibility data against manufacturer documentation and update it as products change. If you spot a figure that no longer matches the manufacturer's guidance, please tell us and we will check it and correct it.

Independence And How The Site Is Funded

The calculator is free to use, with no account and no paywall. The site may display advertising and may contain affiliate links to retailers; if you buy through one we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Compatibility results are calculated from the data and your room dimensions only, and are never influenced by advertisers or affiliate relationships. See our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy for details.
